My Third shot with this bean at 1.1.0 grind setting. This was much better. There was a more developed sweet-bitterness while keeping some of the more complex stone fruit notes.
Een at 1.1.0 the shot still runs slightly fast with fist drop to 26 gms being about 15s, though there is about 12s of pre-infusion before that. Also note this is only achieved with the 1.8g/s flow rate cutting in and pressure having to drop to 3bar. I’ll reduce the target pressure for th final phase from 8 bar to 6.6 bar as 8 bar was never even reached. I think a slightly finer grind may alos be worth a try to see if that tastes a bt better or pushed it ovber the edge into too much bitterness.
Overall I enjoyed this shot. It’s nit up there with the PNG Goroka or the Sarnies Guatemala, but it’s still nice and good to have some variety. However, given the stone fruit bitterness I don’t think it’s for everyone.
Quite a mixed bean size. I broke just one bean (not sure which vbariety from the blend) which broke easily into many pieces, though I didn’t notice much dust production. The colour is medium, but a washed out version rather than the rich color of some beans.
First brew at a grind size of 1.3.0 ran quickly at 19s even with a 6s pre-infusion. Dropping to 1.2.0 still was only 23s with an even longer pre-infusion. I suuspect this needs to be treated like a light roast to bring out the fruity flavours that will work well in a latte.
