Well that was wiered and possibly a shot to forget as I’m sure somethign went wrong in the prep. I ground 0.0.5 coarser than the last shot, but it ran 17s longer. I had teh suspicion it was one sided in the basket and it actuall ran that way once inderway. I also had to get 11g of beans from the freezer, so the prep was definitly inconsistent.
The shot looked beautiful, but had a strange mixed taste of some pleasantish acidity and cellulose. I feel this bean is propne to giving of these cellulose notes and the early soak that I am giving may not be helping as it helps the cellulose strcture break down early. I’m thinking of switching to running this as a straight 8 bar brew at 27g, with tteh possibility of dropping to 24g if that still gives the cardboard taste. Keep grind size at 1.5.0 remembering that the next batch comes out teh freezer so may be a little fresher.
Note that the shot is still going very light at around 20-25 g which suggests it’ quite porous and is giving up all it has very early. This also expalins the late extracted cellulose. Strange that the brittleness and density would not suggest that, but hey, every bean is different.
This is bean that I have had before with a pleasant and nuanced bitterness brewed with a flat 9 bar profile before I had the Gaggimate upgrade.
The bean can be broken under the thumb, but not as easily in many. Just 3 main chunks plus smaller pieces from the skin.
Appearance is medium-dark with some light oild.
This bag was frozend for 6 weeks, although the first shot did have significant CO2. I did refreeze 100grams as I don’t think I would use it all without a break.
