Name | Mystery Coffee: Chepsangor Hills π°πͺβ |
Note | Chepsangor Hills is located in Nandi County in western Kenya. The farm is owned by Dr. Rosebella Langat and her husband Sammy. They grow their own coffee and also buy from small farmers in the surrounding area to find the best beans available. They started growing coffee in 2016 and took it to the Kabsaos cooperative for pulping. Chepsangor Hills is currently one of the most professional projects in the region. This is because it promotes the sustainable growth of coffee through environmentally friendly and agricultural practices. Rosebella's vision is to help local communities, especially women, achieve sustainable social, environmental, and economic empowerment. They have a compost project for organic fertilizer. They also use a greenhouse with multi-layered sun drying beds so that the naturals can be dried faster and independently of rain. The coffee is imported in 30 kg jute bags or even vacuum-packed. One more note. When we visited the farm ourselves in 2023, Sammy explained to us that they wait until the cherries are almost overripe before harvesting them in order to achieve maximum sweetness. They even measured the Brix value for this. We didn't see this at any other farm we visited. Note from Daniel: I have to say that the Mystery Coffee unfortunately fell a little short of my expectations. I had hoped for a little more. I really liked it when I cupped it back then, and it was also great when I cupped it freshly roasted. But somehow it didn't develop as I had hoped. Not quite as βspecialβ as I had hoped. If I had received the coffee a little earlier and had more time, I might have decided on Villa Flor as MC after all. I hope the Mystery League was still able to make something of it... |
